Bobby Kearse, LCSW-C

Bobby is a licensed therapist who approaches therapy with a combination of evidence and skill-based interventions to balance acceptance (mindfulness) and change (behaviorism) in a non-judgmental, collaborative, and empathetic style. He received his Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in behavioral/mental health from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Bobby specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and is also experienced in providing Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TFCBT), Solution-Focused, and Structural Family Therapy. He has worked with adults and adolescents with moderate to severe mental illness in residential and outpatient therapeutic settings. His focus areas are borderline personality disorder (BPD), trauma, anxiety, and depression.

In addition to his work at DBT Maryland, Bobby also works full time at John L. Gildner Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents (JLG-RICA), where he provides individual, family, and group therapy for children and adolescents with a wide variety of mental health concerns. At RICA, Bobby leads DBT skills groups where the focus is on learning effective communication skills and practical coping skills to manage behavioral and emotional dysregulation.

Bobby previously worked as a Crisis Counselor at Cornerstone Montgomery, providing client-centered crisis intervention, Motivational interviewing, and facilitated anger management and psychoeducational groups with its outpatient residential crisis program. Bobby also provided counseling at SEED School Washington D.C. Additionally, he provided individual, family, and group therapy in a public charter school.
