Lise Tonle Mafodong, LCSW-C

Lise Tonle Mafodong is a Clinical Social Worker who uses strengths-based approach in therapy with a combination of evidence and skill-based interventions ( DBT, CBT, Solution Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing). She approaches cases with genuineness, empathy, compassion, non-judgement and cultural Humility. Lise is also driven to end the stigma of mental health in the Black community.
Lise graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and earned her Master's degree in Clinical Social Work at the University of Maryland Baltimore. After graduation, Lise worked as a Child and Family Therapist in a school based program where she provided individual, family, and group therapy to elementary students. Lise is fluent in French and also worked as a Bilingual Mental Health Therapist providing individual, family , group therapy and case management to newly arrived immigrants in Montgomery County.
Lise currently works at John L. Gildner Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents ( JLG-RICA) where she provides individual, family and group therapy for children, adolescents, and young adults who present with a wide variety of mental health concerns. Lise leads the DBT Adolescent girls skills group and is a big advocate of self care. Lise has led self- care presentations at RICA.
When not working Lise enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family. She loves exploring different cultures through food, travels and a good book. Lise believes that change happens when people are given the guidance and tools they need to draw on their own strengths and overcome obstacles to move forward and live fulfilling lives.
